English FA Cup and Scottish Cap Recap: Chelsea wins the FA Cup, Rangers win the Scottish Cup

The last weekend of the 2008/09 season finished with the domestic Cup titles up for grabs in Scotland and England. In the FA Cup Final, it was Everton facing Chelsea, while Rangers faced Falkirk in the Scottish Cup. Here’s a full recap of both matches.

Chelsea v Everton – FA Cup Final – May 30, 2009 – A dream start for Everton as they scored in the first minute and had the lead. Unfortunately as the game wore in, Chelsea proved to be the better team. Only 20 minutes later, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba tied the game and the London club never looked back. Everton’s attack was barely evident the second half as they just couldn’t hold possession in the final third or get any good scoring chances. In the second half, Chelsea pressed for a second goal and Frank Lampard delivered. A strike from about 20-25 yards out that hit the corner and sealed the 2-1 victory for Chelsea. Everton goalkeeper was a little slow on the reaction and did have a chance on the shot. Unfortunately for the Liverpool club, he was unable to make the save and Everton were outclassed at Wembley on Saturday afternoon. A good win for Chelsea who salvaged their season with one trophy.

Rangers v Falkirk – Scottish Cup – Saturday May 30 2009 – Another victory for Rangers who won another trophy in a great 2008/09 season. Nacho Novo scored to open the second half in the 46th minute as Rangers won 1-0. Maurice Edu and Pablo Mendes were unavailable due to injury and Barry Ferguson was given his first start of the “boozegate” scandal a few months back. Falkirk battled vailantly but Novo’s strike was the difference. The club had a few chances including a possible goal that was taken away due to offsides and hitting the post on a Steve Lovell shot.
