It’s another full weekend of games in Major League Soccer as the Houston Dynamo continue to gain ground on Chivas and remain the hottest team in the league. The Eastern Conference remains extremely close while Houston and Chivas USA are well ahead of the pack in the Western Conference. Here’s a full preview of this weekend’s matches along with predictions.
Chicago Fire at DC United – The top two teams in the East meet as the Fire have been better on the road than at home. DC has been inconsistent but currently undefeated at home. It will be a close match against two evenly matched sides that ends in a draw. Prediction – Draw 2-2
New York Red Bulls at Toronto FC – The Red Bulls have struggled to get any offense all season and will travel to BMO Field on Saturday. Toronto has been up and down at BMO Field but will be against a weak NY side. A strong home crowd should provide the lift for Toronto to get another home win. Prediction – Toronto FC wins 1-0
Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas – Dallas has little chance against a hot Dynamo side that is looking to catch Chivas USA for the Western Conference lead. Houston has too much for Dallas and continues to play solid soccer. Dallas could surprise with a draw but it seems unlikely. Prediction – Houston Dynamo wins 2-0
New England Revolution at Kansas City Wizards – The Wizards have been inconsisten at home with a 2-2-2 record while New England has conceded 12 goals on road games. However the Revolution are finally getting healthy and starting to move up in the standings. KC is hard to predict but it should be a close match. Prediction – Draw 1-1
Real Salt Lake at Los Angeles Galaxy – The Galaxy seem to be putting it together while Real Salt Lake have scored only 1 goal on the road. Landon Donovan will be missing again as he is with the National Team in the Confederations Cup but the Galaxy have played well without him. RSL road form continues to be horrible and will have trouble scoring against the Galaxy. Prediction – Los Angeles Galaxy wins 1-0
San Jose Earthquakes at Seattle Sounders FC – San Jose has been one of the worst teams all season while Seattle has been one of the best. At home with a strong crowd, Seattle should have no problems disposing of a weak San Jose team. Prediction – Seattle Sounders FC wins 2-1
Chivas USA at Columbus Crew – Chivas has stalled a bit in the last few weeks and now only leads Houston by 3 points in the Western Conference. Columbus is starting to come alive and is now in contention for a playoff spot. Chivas will have trouble containing Schelotto who sould lead Columbus to the win. Prediction – Columbus Crew wins 1-0
