It was the 2nd day of matches in Group C of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico playing Panama and Guadeloupe taking on Nicaragua. Here’s a recap of both matches along with video highlights.
Mexico draws with Panama 1-1 – Video Highlights – A physical match between both teams resulted in a 1-1 draw and 4 red cards. Mexico took the early lead on a Miguel Sabah goal in the 9th minute only to see Panama respond 20 minutes later with a Blas Perez 28th minute goal. At the end of the first half there were two red cards, one for Luis Noriega of Mexico and Armando Gun of Panama. The second set of red cards was later in the 2nd half in the 79th minute when Mexican manager Javier Aguirre was ejected along with Panamanian player Ricardo Phillips. Mexico is in good shape to make the quarterfinals while Panama still has a lot of work to do.

Guadeloupe beats Nicaragua 2-0 – Video Highlights – Guadeloupe defeated Nicaragua 2-0 on goals from Stephane Auvrey in the 57th minute, and Ludovic Gotin in the 59th minute. Guadeloupe now leads Group C and will be in the quarterfinals as they’ve clinched at least a 2nd place finish in the group. Nicaragua on the other hand is likely out of contention and has to win their final match to have a realistic chance.
