CONCACAF 2009 Gold Cup Recap and Video Highlights: USA and Haiti draw 2-2, Honduras crushes Grenada 4-0

It was the 3rd day of matches in Group B with the United States taking on Haiti and Honduras matching up against Grenada. Here’s a full recap and video highlights of both matches.

USA and Haiti draw 2-2 – Video HighlightsThe United States salvaged a draw against Haiti with a late goal from Stuart Holdena as both teams advanced to the quarterfinals after Saturday’s match. The US took the early lead with a goal from Davy Arnaud but Haiti recovered to keep it 0-1 heading into halftime. Early in the second half, Haiti scored 2 goals to take a lead as they played inspiring soccer. Vaniel Sirin (45th minute) and Mones Chery (49th minute) scored goals in the 2nd half to give Haiti a 2-1 lead. A win would have been added confidence but the United States fought back the remainder of the game and caught a break when Stuart Holden scored a last minute goal in extra time to make it a 2-2 draw. Both teams will be playing in the quarterfinals that will start within the next week.

Honduras crushes Grenada 4-0 – Video HighlightsHonduras clinched their spot in the quarterfinals with a convincing 4-0 win over Grenada on Saturday night. The result was never in doubt as Honduras outshot Grenada easily and got goals from Walter Martinez (1st minute), Roger Espinoza (24th minute), Melvin Valladares (55th minute) and Carlos Costly (66th minute). Overall Grenada looked outclassed in all of their matches and had little chance of making the quarterfinals while Honduras is a strong favorite to reach the semifinals.
