UEFA Champions League Recap and Video Highlights: Wednesday August 26, 2009 – Arsenal, APOEL, Olympiacos, Stuttgart, and Fiorentina advance

Britain Soccer Premier LeagueThe UEFA Champions League Play-Off round finished up on Wednesday August 26, 2009 with the second legs of five matches. Some of these included Arsenal v Celtic, Olympiacos v Copenhagen, Fiorentina v Sporting, and Stuttgart v Timisoara.

Arsenal beats Celtic 3-1 (5-1 on aggregate) – Video Highlights

Arsenal advanced past Celtic on a 3-1 win at the Emirates and 5-1 on aggregate. The first goal came in the first half as Eduardo drew a penalty and converted to give the home side a 3 goal lead on aggregate. The call was questionable and should have been a no call. Celtic played a decent first half and were unlucky with the call but never had many scoring chances. The second half saw Arsenal continue to get chances and add two more goals, one from Arshavin, and another from Eboue. Arsenal looked the better team from the start and will move into the group stage.

Fiorentina advances past Sporting 1-1 (3-3 on aggregate, away goals) – Video Highlights

Fiorentina could only manage a draw at home in the second leg but their two away goals in the first proved to be the difference. Both clubs looked evenly matched as neither was able to get a win at home. The goal for Fiorentina was by Jovetic and for Sporting it was Moutinho.

Olympiacos beats FC Sheriff 1-0 (3-0 on aggregate) – Video Highlights

Greek side Olympiacos defeated Sheriff 1-0 at home on Wednesday and 3-0 on aggregate. The goal came in the 82nd minute from Mitroglou.

APOEL beats Copenhagen 3-1 (3-2 on aggregate) – Video Highlights

APOEL had a strong second leg to come from a 0-1 deficit to advance 3-2 on aggregate. The home side had twogoals from Michail, and one from Kosowskil while FC Copenhagen’s came from Dame Ndoye.

Stuttgart advances past Timisoara 0-0 (2-0 on aggregate) – Video Highlights

Neither team was able to score but Stuttgart advance while having a 2 goal lead heading into the second leg.
