The UEFA Europa League finished up its qualifying round on Thursday with the second legs of each tie. Overall there were several matches and over 30 teams advancing to the next round. Here’s a recap of some of the matches including Fulham v Vetra, Hamburg v Randers, Roma v KAA Gent, PSV v Cherno and Athletic Bilbao v Young Boys.
Fulham advances past FK Vetra 6-0 on aggregate – Video Highlights
English club Fulham never was in trouble as the cruised to a 3-0 win the secong leg and a 6-0 win on aggregate. FK Vetra rarely had chances in both matches and just not the same level as Fulham. Etuhu opened the scoring with a header off a corner kick that sealed the win as Vetra seemed unable to score at Craven Cottage. Even with a solid lead Fulham continued to attack in the second half scored another goal. American Clint Dempsey stripped the ball from a Vetra defender on the wing, made a nice move to get past another defender and sent a cross into the box and Andy Johnson put in the back of the net. Fulham was able to score again as American Eddie Johnson came on as a late substitute and setup Andy Johnson again for his 2nd goal of the match. Dempsey played a nice through ball to Eddie who had open space and found Andy wide open in front of the net for an easy goal.
PSV advances past Cherno More 2-0 on aggregate – Video Highlights
PSV had solid 1-0 victories in both legs against Cherno More as they will move onto the next round. They did receive a red card late in the first half but already had their 1-0 lead after an own goal from Cherno More.
Athletic Bilbao advances past Young Boys 2-2 on aggregate (away goals) – Video Highlights
Athletic Bilbao recovered from a 0-1 first leg to score 2 away goals in a 2-1 victory in the second leg to advance. The Spanish club had goals from Fernando Llorente in the 26th minute and Iker Munain in the 72nd minute.
AS Roma advances past KAA Gent 10-2 on aggregate – Video Highlights
Roma dominated KAA Gent with a 7-1 win in the second leg as they added to their overall 10-2 lead on aggregate. From the start the Italian side was in control and never looked back. Totti had a hat trick on the night while De Rossi had 2 goals for Roma in the victory.
Hamburg SV advances past Randers FC 4-1 on aggregate – Video Highlights
Hamburg had a 4-0 lead heading into the second leg and easily advanced despite losing 0-1 at home. There was little doubt who would advance after Hamburg scord 4 aways goals in the first leg. The goal for Randers was by Soren Berg in the 35th minute.
