The South American region or CONMEBOL had a full set of 2010 World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday September 5, 2009 with the biggest match being Argentina v Brazil. Other matches including Colombia v Ecuador, Peru v Uruguay, Chile v Venezuela, and Paraguay v Bolivia. Here’s a recap of all the matches along with video highlights.
CONMEBOL 2010 World Cup Qualifying Recap – Saturday September 5, 2009
Argentina lost again as Brazil clinched the one of the automatic qualification spots on Saturday. The 3-1 win by Brazil confirms their claim as one of the best teams in the world and the top team in the South American region. Other wins were from Colombia, who moved to within 2 points of 4th place Argentina. The top 4 spots are automatic spots while the 5th is a playoff with the 4th place CONCACAF team. Paraguay also had a nice win and is within reach of clinching spot along with Chile. Both teams have 27 points, or 3 behind Brazil.
