The UEFA Champions League had a full set of group stage matches on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. English club Chelsea were one of the matches as they hosted La Liga side Atletico Madrid. Here’s a recap of the match along with video highlights.
Chelsea beats Atletico Madrid 4-0 – Video Highlights
Chelsea won again the group stage as they moved to 3-0-0 with 9 points. The first goal came late in the first half as Salomon Kalou scored in the 41st minute to make it 1-0 heading into the second half.
Atletico failed to find the back of the net early in the 2nd half and Chelsea would extend their lead. Kalou scored once more in the 52nd minute and Frank Lampard score in the 69th minute to put the match out of reach. It was a solid performance from Chelsea who are in position to reach the knockout stage again this year.
The misery would not end for Atletico as they would concede an own goal in the 90th minute, courtesy of Luis Perea.
