The Scottish Premier League resumed play this weekend with six matches on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Rangers looked to continue their strong play after their victory of Celtic in the Old Firm. They traveled to play St Johnstone on Saturday in the SPL. Here’s a recap and video highlights of that match.
Rangers beat St Johnstone 2-1 – Video Highlights
Rangers started out slow in the match at St Johnstone would grab the early first half lead. Collin Samuel of Johnstone scored in the 17th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead. Possession was very even throughout the match and Rangers were not able to take control of the match at any point. They would find a goal late in the 1st half to make it 1-1 at halftime as Kris Boyd scored in the 40th minute. A shot was sent on goal, deflected off a few players and fell to Boyd who scored for a rather easy goal.
The second half was scoreless early as Rangers could not pull away from Johnstone. The home side had more shots on goal and played a solid match. Eventually, Rangers would take the lead in the 83rd minute with a goal from Sasa Papac. It was scored on a shot from about 18 yards out and into the upper left corner. Papac’s goal was the difference as Rangers got the win. It wasn’t an impressive or dominating performance, but Rangers got the three points.
