Match Preview

Tuesday’s match at the Britannia Stadium is the second between Stoke City and Manchester City in a matter of days.

The pair drew 1-1 at Eastlands on Saturday in their FA Cup tie, with Shaun Wright-Phillips opening the scoring early on before Ricardo Fuller equalised for the Potters in the second half.

The sides last met in the Barclays Premier League on Boxing Day, with the Blues giving manager Roberto Mancini a winning start to life in England, thanks to first half goals from Martin Petrov and Carlos Tevez.

This time however, Mancini will have to do without danger man Tevez, with the striker being granted leave to return to his native Argentina for family reasons.

FOURTH PLACE

Stoke were the victors when the sides met in the Potteries last term. James Beattie scored the only goal of the match for his new club on the stroke of half time.

Manchester City are currently sitting pretty in fifth in the Barclays Premier League, on equal points with fourth place rivals Liverpool and with two matches in hand. They have taken 12 points from their last six matches, but have lost their last two on the road, at Everton and Hull City.

Stoke meanwhile, are unbeaten in five, and have lost only one of their last six at home, with that defeat coming against Birmingham City.
